Rishi Khan : Trinidad and Tobago / Canada – Research & Development Engineer

“WindAid gave me a life changing experience and introduced me to some of the most down to earth individuals with unique personalities and limitless potentials. We were able to explore Peru in a way unlike any generic tour or vacation. We saw its raw nature, the honesty and compassion of its natives, the gasping beauty of the ruins and the fascinating culture it had to offer. Being from anywhere else in the world would give you a true appreciation for the term ‘coming out of your shell.’ As an engineer or anyone even minutely interested in green energy, wind turbines, renewables, business, architecture, electricity or social work, WindAid is the place to boost those passions. I found a new appreciation for renewable energy engineering and was finally able to put real practicality to the academic theory. WindAid allowed us to contribute in building a turbine from scratch and witness its operation and better yet, the social impact it had on the people. Truly an unforgettable experience being able to see the fruits of labour and also allow someone to be ‘nourished from that fruit’. The opportunities that became available after were endless. I received numerous offers from companies involved in sustainable energy. I am still in contact with the volunteers from my group who I consider some of my closest friends and yet thousands of miles apart in the world. All this would not be possible without WindAid. – University of Toronto Majored in Mechanical Engineering with a minor/focus on Sustainable Energy
