Windaid is offering a five-week
placement program geared toward people interested in directly improving
the lives of those living without the benefits of electricity. Our goals are:
Program details: Week 1: Orientation and Induction: Participants will arrive in Trujillo, Peru, and participate in interactive workshops about renewable technologies, the language, culture and customs of Pervian society and health and safety during the Windaid program. We will also visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Chan Chan, Colonial Trujillo and Huaca del Sol and Huaca de la Luna. Participants will participate in a basic Spanish language course, visit a wind turbine in operation, and begin gaining an understanding of wind turbine manufacturing. Week 2-4: Participants will learn the skills and techniques required for constructing a wind turbine and will be assigned to small work groups for the duration of the project. Participants will visit reccipient host community in order to establish and begin building the relationship. Upon completion, participants will test their wind turbine to ensure it is ready for installation. (If desired, for an additional fee of $5.00 per hour, participants may continue Spanish language courses with an individual Spanish language instructor.) Weekends free for travel Week 5: Participants will relocate to host community for assembly, installation and completion of wind turbine. Wind turbine presented to host community through a Peruvian-style ceremony. Participants will spend time befriending and developing relationships with member of the host community. Return to Trujillo and depart Friday |
